Job Description: Associate / Senior Associate, Disputes

About the role
Our client is looking for a litigator to join its Disputes team in Bengaluru. You'll handle commercial litigation and arbitration for corporate clients, with a focus on matters before the Karnataka High Court and courts and tribunals in Karnataka.
Key responsibilities
- Handle commercial and civil disputes, including writ petitions, appeals and original suits, before the Karnataka High Court, the district and commercial courts in Bengaluru, and tribunals such as NCLT, DRT and RERA
- Draft pleadings, applications, written submissions and legal opinions
- Brief and assist senior counsel, and appear on your own in hearings where needed
- Review and translate Kannada documents, records and local court orders
- Advise clients on litigation strategy, risk assessment and pre-litigation matters
- Manage matters and client communication, and supervise junior associates
Requirements
- LLB from a reputed law school, enrolled with the Karnataka State Bar Council (or another Bar Council with active practice in Karnataka)
- 3–5 years of disputes experience, with regular practice before the Karnataka High Court
- Fluency in Kannada (reading, writing and speaking) is mandatory
- Strong grounding in the CPC, the Commercial Courts Act, the Arbitration & Conciliation Act and the Specific Relief Act
- Excellent drafting, research and oral advocacy skills
- Law firm experience preferred; candidates from strong chambers practices will also be considered
